Phi Phi Island
Phi Phi Island is one of the popular destinations in Thailand. It is comprise of 6 islands located betwen the large Island of Phuket and the west Strait of Malacca coast of the mainland. Ko Phi Phi Don is the largest island of the group, and the only island with permanent inhabitants, although the beaches of the second largest island, Ko Phi Phi Le, are visited by many people as well. The rest of the islands in the group, including Bida Nok, Bida Nai and Bamboo Island are not much more than large limestone rocks jutting out of the sea. The islands are administratively part of Krabi Province. The larger and inhabited Ko Phi Phi Don attracts hundreds of visitors to stay on its shores while the smaller unihabited Ko Phi Phi Le hosts beautiful bays and beaches, incluing the world-famous Maya Bay. The islands came to worldwide prominence when British-American film, “The Beach”, use the islands as its location in 2000. In 2004, the islands was devastated by the Indian Ocean Tsunami of December 2000, when nearly all of the island’s infrastructure was destroyed. And untill 2010, most of its infrastructure has been restored.
