Longyi
It resembles a long skirt or a sarong but worn by both men and women in Myanmar. Burmese originally wore elaborated type of longyis to show their social status. However, during British colonial era, longyi became more popular as it was ‘simplified’ version of former longyi. Today, almost in any occassions, Burmese are keen to wear longyi to go to the markets or attending wedding ceremonies. For most eyes, it is difficult to distingush the differences between male and female longyi but trained observers would give remarks on their special floral patterns compared to stripes and checks on male longyis.
