Lao New Year (Songkran/Pii Mai)
The New Year is celebrated annually every 13/14 to 15/16 April. It is also called Songkran or Pii Mai which the official festival usually takes 3 days long. During the festival the Buddha statue is cleaned using holy water and people go to the temple to give offerings. The festival is mostly related to water as during the festival people splash water to each other bringing the meaning of cleansing people from their misfortune.
