Festival of the Nine Emperor Gods
The festival held for 9 days by Chinese communities in Southeast Asia from the first to the ninth day of the ninth lunar month each year. In Singapore, the oldest and the most prominent temple to worship the Nine Emperor Gods is Hougang Tou Mu Temple on Upper Serangoon Road. There, the worshipers commonly give offerings to the Gods for blessing. While in Phuket, Thailand, at the end of the festival people gathered on the street to do a parade and during the parade the worshiper pierced their cheeks with various sharp objects.
