Majapahit

The Hindu kingdom of Majapahit rose to power in the 14th century in Eastern Java. The chief minister of the dynasty between 1331- 1364 was Gadjah Mada. Within this period, he was successful in gaining allegiance from what is now most of modern Indonesia, in addition to much of the Malay archipelago. The Majapahit collapsed in around 1520. At this time, many of its leaders fled to Bali, the only island in Indonesia where Hinduism remains the primary religion.
