It is the biggest palace and royal residence in the wolrd. In comparison, the Bruniean palace is approximately seven times bigger than the British Buckingham Palace. The palace is the house of Brunei’s Sultan, Hassanal Bolkiah. Istana Nurul Iman is also an office for high ranking officials. Built 1982, the exterior of the palace is designed by Leonardo v. Locsin while the interior designer was Khuan Chew who also worked on construction of Burj Al Arab in Dubai. The design tries to combine Malay and European architecture with obvious luxurious details such as golden dome and high quality of marbles. While visitors can only admire the palace from outside during a year but the palace is open for visitors two days only. It’s open in beginning of Ramadhan month, holy month of Muslim calendar.
