Devarāja

A cult founded by Jayavarman II, the founder of Khmer empire of Angkor in 9th Century AD ancient Cambodia. Devarāja which means ‘God-King’, was a cult developed out of Hindu and the domestic traditions. The cult believed that the King was the only ruler of the universe as the manifestation of Śiva, one of Hindu’s gods.
